Caffeine plays with a Pocket Reform
This page is a draft and pretty much a work in progress. Expect things to change a lot. You can use an RSS Reader to read it by adding this feed to it.
It's been a while since I used a Linux machine as my daily driver. I've been using Macs for so long (along with iPads and iPhones) while toying with OpenBSD, Plan9, etc., on other machines.
Since MNT Research announced the Pocket Reform, I knew I had to have it. I love the form factor and size, and I really want it to be part of my life. I'll use this page as a log of my adventure while I slowly incorporate it into my daily routine.
I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm looking forward to it.
2024-08-28 — Quick fixes
- Update the firmware version
- Finished the Drafts.app extraction script. called it
draftspunk
- I tried to do an
apt upgrade
, but Debian unstable bugs made me worry about the results. I need to research how to use apt mark
properly.
- Having issues with the clipboard. Some stuff I copy from GTK based apps are not properly pasted on
vim
or micro
. Must research.
2024-08-11 — Weekend polishing
2024-08-09 — First Week Impressions
- It's solid. Sturdy. Massive. But tiny.
- It was very simple to setup. I don't really like the fact that it's attached to the unstable debian channel, but I'm not ready to play with this
- Bluetooth has been a problem since day one. It always boots with it turned off, and I have to manually turn it on every time
- The sway battery meter is always stuck on 100%.
- At home, with a rock solid charger, It stops charging the battery at 64%. No idea why
- I miss Apple's Airdrop and shared clipboard support so much
- Linux ARM is not as well supported as Apple silicon
